Nvidia today announced that it is making its industry-leading NVIDIA 3D Vision video player technology available for free to Web developers, enabling them to easily build websites for streaming high-quality 3D video to 3D Vision-equipped PCs. It is the first company to deliver a 3D video plug-in for the Microsoft Media Platform (MMP) Player Framework v2.5 (F.K.A. Silverlight Media Framework) with support for active-shutter 3D glasses. Canon Middle East today announced the launch of its updated imageFORMULA DR-3010C scanner, operating more than 30% faster than its previous scanning speed. It also comes with additional software enhancements, providing customers with more value and performance without any corresponding increase in cost. The compact, robust DR-3010C is now capable of scanning at rapid scanning speeds of 40ppm in black and white, compared to 30ppm on the previous version. The same speed and performance level is maintained even when scanning at 300dpi resolution, often a requirement for accurate OCR scanning.

Global PC shipments declined 3.2% during the first quarter of 2011 (1Q11) compared to the same time last year, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker. Although the forecast for the quarter was already conservative – IDC expected a mere 1.5% growth in shipments – a steady but still cautious business mentality and waning consumer enthusiasm persisted. A spike in fuel and commodity prices and the disruptions in Japan added to the mix, further dampening a market struggling to maintain momentum.
