The UAE Ministry of Health (MOH) has announced a series of initiatives that will utilise Microsoft technology to deliver enhanced efficiency and innovation in the health sector in the country.
The move is part of the MOH’s continued commitment to deliver world class comprehensive healthcare services for the UAE’s citizens and residents.
According the MOH, it will utilise various Microsoft services including Sharepoint, Windows Phone applications, Lync and Microsoft Dynamics AX to enable entities within the ministry to streamline business processes across ministerial offices, hospitals, primary and secondary health care centres and clinics. In addition, the move will ease integration with the Patient Information System Cerner and enhance service delivery to patients, the MOH said in a statement.
This technology will enable doctors and other healthcare professionals to connect instantly and share critical data in real-time. This will enhance the quality of healthcare services by providing physicians and medical personnel quick access to patients’ medical history and critical information.
“We are responsible for implementing the Ministry of Health policy through the MOH preventive and curative health services at all levels, including primary, health and clinical care. The partnership with Microsoft will support us in enhancing coordination of services and collaboration among staff to improve the quality of health services,” said Ali Al Ajami, director, Information Technology Department at MOH.
“At Microsoft we know that the healthcare industry is transforming, and technology innovation to ensure the right level of healthcare services are delivered is at the forefront of this transformation. We are committed to continuously provide innovative and secure solutions that will provide the Ministry of Health and its staff the tools needed to secure a healthy living for UAE citizens and residents,” said Ibrahim Youssry, regional director, Public Sector at Microsoft Gulf.
This initiative is set to support the UAE competitiveness pillars of increasing technological readiness, infrastructure, health and primary education, business sophistication and innovation so as to drive efficiency in the health sector. This aims to support the pillars for UAE’s competitiveness through various initiatives including Smart Services (mobile applications, unified communications, and services platforms) and the Wareed project.
Through the Wareed project, a central repository platform is connecting all the Ministry’s healthcare facilities in Dubai and the Northern Emirates by automating all healthcare processes across various departments and is accessible from anywhere on any device, allowing the healthcare professionals to share information, data, documents, scans and other digital data securely across the Ministry of Health.
As part of its commitment to the MOH and based on the benefits of the institutional agreement between the two parties, Microsoft in collaboration with its certified channel partners has conducted a series of workshops to enable the staff’s readiness and to equip them with the skills needed to make the most of this technology.
In addition to this initiative, the MOH has worked closely with Microsoft to ensure that all technologies utilised by the ministry are fully licensed as protecting IPR is a key factor in motivating innovation and sets an example for supporting private and public partnerships that are essential for the UAE’s competitiveness.
