du supports Dubai Cares Girls’

du in spirit of Ramadan plegded its support to the education of girl child worldwide by lending hand to “Dubai Cares Girls’ Education Campaign 2011” which runs throughout the Holy Month and Eid Al Fitr. The campaign aims to increase awareness of the importance of girls’ education as well as raise funds to support Dubai Cares programs, which address the gender imbalance in primary education and empower girls within their communities in developing countries across the world.

“This association with Dubai Cares underlines our strong commitment to the community, and is a demonstration of our dedication to supporting the education of young people. So many of us take schooling for granted as it is an expected part of our upbringing, but through this year’s campaign we will be reaching out to provide underprivileged girls the education that they not only need, but want, in order to make a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.” said Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communications, du.

Education can enhance the health and security prospects for girls, which will in turn improve her working life and allow her to earn a higher income to support her family. Eventually, this will reflect on the development of her community. Despite the benefits of educating girls, there are 42 million girls around the world who do not go to school.

Additionally, Dubai Cares’ donation boxes will be displayed at du Shops in more than 25 locations to help raise funds in support of the campaign.

In the past, du has been involved in various programmes to promote educational issues in the UAE and beyond under the banner of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility. The most prominent of these is the Masar program for graduates and a partnership with Kalimat publishing house to encourage a love of the Arabic language and reading in children.
