AOC, a provider of flat-screen monitors and TVs, with operations in over 100 countries throughout the world, has appointed IT distributor Platinum Micro as its distributor for the South African market.

The new distributorship was recently announced at the premier of the X-Men motion picture in Johannesburg.

Ricky Correia, GM, Platinum Micro says: “The Company will distribute a range of AOC monitors including the AOC Razor range of ultra-slim monitors which offer ultra-slim cabinets of just 0.92cm thickness and 1.2cm thickness with screen sizes ranging from 18.5 inches to 23 inches. We will have stock within a month and will distribute the monitors nationally through direct channels, which are soon to be finalised.”

Correia says this is a huge brand coup for Platinum Micro and a great opportunity. “It will lead to a permanent presence in South Africa for AOC and we already have a distribution channel reward and incentive scheme in place to attract top resellers. The marketing support from AOC is first-class,” he says. “Locally the intention is to build up the AOC name in South Africa and turn it into a prominent household brand.”

Tony Yu, business development manager for South Africa at AOC, says the company is glad to sign up with Platinum Micro and given the wide reach of Platinum in channels across the country, AOC will be able to penetrate further deep into the South African market.

The scale of the AOC operation is vast. Last year, despite the recession, it shipped 16-million monitor units worldwide. It is ranked sixth in the world’s leading brands and is committed to expanding its global footprint with a new focus on Africa, the Middle East and central Asia. It has maintained average annual growth of more than 20% for the past three years.

AOC’s VP-Sales MEA and CIS Central Asia, Brian Liu reiterates that AOC’s commitment to introducing practical solutions that cater for the diverse needs of today’s world whether it is entertainment, gaming, presentations, displays or graphic applications. He says worldwide, the consumer market is demanding products that offer design functionality, wider applications, green credentials and competitive pricing.”

Liu adds that the LCD market in the MEA & CIS Central Asia region is evolving at a faster rate and AOC is looking to its business partners to drive sales in these markets, including South Africa. Years of in-depth market experiences, strong product knowledge, keen customer insights, a powerful manufacturing background, sound costs structure and solid financial standing are the foundation for AOC’s growth in the region.

The AOC debut in South Africa is from a platform that includes a superior product range containing the world’s slimmest VESA mounted monitor, the Razor range of super-slim and sleek monitors offering super high DCR for fine image details at greater depth.
