Sharjah rolls out ownCloud to provide smart digital services across the Government

The Government of Sharjah has chosen ownCloud as the file management platform for its digital transformation. Department of eGovernment (DeG) shall provide access to ownCloud to all the Government employees in Sharjah. Using ownCloud as their file platform will enable the users to safely share tasks and files anywhere and, on any device, making collaboration easy and seamless.

In fostering seamless digital collaboration, Sharjah leads the way in the region when it comes to Government 4.0 – the digitization of public services administration – as the first government customer in the UAE to roll out ownCloud. The deployment is part of a drive by the Department of eGovernment for digital services that are not only secure but modern, smart and innovative. ownCloud allows companies and public administrations like Sharjah to supply their own cloud services. This makes them independent from overseas tech firms and the associated risks thereby creating digital sovereignty. The software combines secure data sharing and synchronization with comprehensive enterprise-level features and integrations, auditable open-source code and on-premises availability.

“We are pleased to provide an innovative and secure file platform for the Government of Sharjah as a sovereign digital service that lets us retain full control of our data”, states His Excellency Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Director General of the Department of eGovernment in Sharjah.

“The Department of eGovernment shows how modern infrastructure projects make the public sector smarter and more efficient without compromising on security”, says Tobias Gerlinger, CEO of ownCloud.
