Converging Surveillance & Information Security

INTERSEC-Intersec Middle East is the largest and most diverse Security & Safety exhibition in the region. According to Messe Frankfurt Middle East, this year’s event featured a total of 1,304 exhibitors from 58 countries, and welcomed 33,501 industry professionals from all over the world.

Apart from the wide participation of experts, Intersec also brings together security & protection products, major brand manufacturers and international newcomers, all under one roof.

This year’s event saw enthusiastic participation from the video surveillance industry. Advances in technology have made practically everything go digital yet surveillance systems were among the last to make this transition. This overlapping of physical security with information security has, however, come at a price. There have been several incidents recently where video surveillance systems have been disrupted due to hacking. Such attempts have been made to either prevent systems from working properly or to allow criminals to gain access to the footage. This creates a number of security issues and therefore it is important to ensure the right hardware and software have been implemented to help harden the surveillance network and prevent it from being penetrated.

The video surveillance brands that participated at Intersec 2017, showcased not only physical surveillance products but also software and security solutions for video surveillance. AgilityGrid is a Dubai-based Value Added Distributor that provides IP CCTV security solutions for businesses and government bodies across the Middle East and has been participating at Intersec for six years now. This year they showcased their complete range of hardware and software solutions for video surveillance including cutting-edge video analytics. They also demonstrated how the two solutions can be completely integrated into one unified platform.

“For us Intersec has also been the means to connect our vendors and channel partners with the customers. We take this opportunity not only to educate our customer base on the business benefits of a good surveillance strategy but also to provide invaluable tools for expansion and growth. As security needs get more and more sophisticated, the solutions provided need to keep pace with it,” stated Costa Boukouvalas, CEO of AgilityGrid.

Commenting on the diverse applications of video surveillance solutions, Boukouvalas explained that many of the current solutions are being used to increase business productivity. As a result such solutions may find their applications in retail industry where facial recognition can be used to identify repeat customers and also as storage and management solutions that allow access to information quickly for better business decisions.
