Symantec will be focusing on the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance for Middle Eastern organisations at RSA Conference 2016 later this month.
Giampiero Nanni from Symantec will be delivering a track session regarding the same at RSA Conference Abu Dhabi on November 15, 2016. RSA Conference will take place at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi from November 15-16, 2016
Nanni brings with him expertise gained through years of collaborating with government bodies in a number of countries across Europe, Middle East and Africa on policies such as data privacy, smart cities, critical infrastructure, IoT and cybersecurity. The Symantec State of European Data Privacy Survey reveals that whilst 91 percent of respondents have concerns about their ability to become compliant, only 22 percent of businesses consider it a top priority in the next two years.
Companies that fail to meet the mandate’s requirements, run the risk of incurring fines of up to €20 million (AED 80 million) or 4 percent of their global annual turnover depending on what is larger. “With the GDPR coming into effect by May 2018, it will be imperative for any organization in the Middle East that treats the personal data of EU residents to be compliant. Our findings clearly state that there is a gap between how important privacy and security is for consumers, and its priority for businesses. The good news is: there’s still time to remedy the situation – if firms take immediate, comprehensive action, including on the cyber security aspects,” said Giampiero Nanni, Government Affairs, EMEA, Symantec Corporation.
