TP-Link, a global provider of WiFi networking products, recently announced its grand vision for the Internet of Things (IoT) with the official launch of its Neffos smartphone brand and the latest Neffos series smartphones – Neffos X1 and X1 Max.

The vendor says the launch of the new handsets is aimed at getting “close to consumers”.

The company said the move to enter the smartphone segment reflects a new phase in TP-Link’s transformation to grow beyond networking to smart technologies, providing users not only reliable WiFi, but also a smarter life where everything can be connected through its smart home ecosystem.

Jeffrey Chao, co-founder and chairman of TP-Link, delivered the news in a speech at IFA in Berlin, Germany and highlighted four pillars of the company’s roadmap for IoT.

Chao outlined that IoT routers are the device and information hub, smartphones primary interface between people and devices and cloud as the service platform, which integrates together various smart home product and solutions.

As the central focus of TP-Link’s smart home ecosystem, the Neffos smartphones will bring people closer to everything and everyone around them, the company stated.

“TP-Link has evolved to become much more than a networking company over the past two decades as it constantly strives to meet the changing demands of our global customers,” said Chao, “The Neffos smartphones demonstrate our determination to go beyond wireless technology and make life smarter and easier for today’s connected customers with innovative products and user-centric experiences.”
