Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan to sign MoU on Cyber Security

Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan working under the Northern Corridor Integration project, are next month (May 2015) expected to sign an MoU on Cyber Security Framework for cooperation.

A statement by Kenya’s Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology said the MoU signing event will take place in Kampala during the next Northern Corridor Integration Summit.

Kenya’s Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology has now sent out a call for comments on the draft MoU that is now published on the ministry’s website.

“In light of the above, the Ministry is inviting comments from stakeholders to further improve the contents of the Draft Memorandum. Written comments can be forwarded to cybersecuritymoict@information.go.ke,” said the unsigned statement from the Ministry.

According to the announcement, the MoU will also include corroboration in prevention and responding to evolving cyber security threats. A download link has also been posted on the ministry website.

In January 2015, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for ICT, Dr. Fred Matiang’i signed a memorandum of understanding with his South Sudan counterpart Hon. Rebecca Okwachi. That MoU will ensure that ICT becomes a prevalent component of communication between the two countries and is part of the East African Regional Transport, Trade and Development Facilitation Programme. The MoU also mentioned among other important things, laying of the fibre optic cable alongside the road to be constructed from Eldoret to Nadapal up to Juba that will permit connectivity between Kenya and South Sudan.
