South Africa’s Telkom has launched an offer, giving away the new internet-connected DSTV Explora decoder for free on a 24-month 10Mbps+ deal.
The new DStv Explora comes complete with a redesigned DStv remote including hotlink buttons and a much more visual, streamlined, image rich interface as well as improved all-round functionality and better search options.
The DStv Explora represents MultiChoice’s new next generation premium entertainment console to anchor subscribers’ home viewing, as more content than ever before will be funnelled by satellite direct to homes.
South Africa’s poor broadband penetration – both in terms of levels and speed – had previously hampered plans for devices such as the DStv Explora to be seamlessly connected to the internet.
South Africa is the African continent’s most advanced pay-TV market, yet high broadband penetration is still low and only 1.7 residents per 100 inhabitants have access to a fixed line broadband connection.
To take advantage of Telkom’s promotion, customers will need to upgrade to the Smart Home Premium package for R899 a month.
The Smart Home Premium package grants 10Mbps speeds, with a 50GB cap and unlimited night surfer data, among other perks.
