Western Digital launches enterprise-grade HDD

WD Se lineWestern Digital today announced availability of its new innovative WD Se line of hard drives, designed specifically for scale-out datacenter deployments, mid-sized network attached storage (NAS) deployment, and backup/archiving applications.

The new drive is Built on an enterprise-grade platform for reliable 24x7x365 operation with capacities up to 4 TB. The line consists of 3.5″ 7200rpm Advanced Format SATA drives in 2 TB, 3 TB and 4 TB capacities. All of these units have a 64 MB buffer.

WD’s Se line hard drives feature a dual processor for twice the processing power to maximize performance; the Enhanced Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF) technology which monitors the drive and correct both linear and rotational vibration in real time; Dual actuator technology that improves head positional accuracy over the data track(s); StableTrac – whereby the motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking during read and write operations; a multi-axis shock sensor which automatically detects the subtlest shock events and compensates to protect the data.

RAID-specific, time-limited error recovery (TLER) also prevents drive fallout caused by the extended hard drive error-recovery processes common to desktop drives, and; dynamic fly height technology, which adjusts each read-write head?s fly height in real time for higher reliability.
