“Providing clients with cost-effective energy saving products and tips has become more important as environmental awareness increases and the tough economic climate persists,” says Axiz’ Chris Barnes, Product Manager – HP Monitors.
Axiz, leading IT infrastructure distributor, advises small, medium and large enterprises to introduce greening initiatives within the office environment.
“In order to make a noticeable financial difference, it is imperative that customers know what to look for when selecting technology devices,” says Barnes. “Changing their employees` energy habits and training them on good environmental office behaviour is all part of the solution. When working with clients we are able to guide them so that they see an immediate return on reducing their utility costs and energy output.”
HP has a range of products that enable customers to make informed and qualified energy-efficient technology purchases. Barnes recommends that the first check is to purchase products that have an ENERGY STAR logo or label.
These products can translate into a significant reduction of energy costs, for example an ENERGY STAR qualified PC uses 75% less electricity than PCs without enabled power management features. He says that HP has introduced a variety of monitors, HP Notebooks, Minis, selected Advanced Business Desktops and Elite Business Desktops, which are ENERGY STAR qualified in line with minimising environmental impacts.
Barnes explains the benefits of ENERGY STAR products as:
Producing less heat and reducing cooling loads by approximately 15% and up to 30% in warmer climates.
Using about half as much electricity – saving half in utility costs.
Automatically go into “sleep” mode after periods of inactivity. Computers use 75% less energy in “sleep” mode.
The EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) program evaluates computer desktops, laptops, and monitors based on 51 environmental criteria. EPEAT helps companies reduce energy consumption, cut costs, integrate sustainable materials and drive green into every aspect of their operation.
Most of HP`s Performance and Advantage Monitors have an EPEAT GOLD rating, including a wider variety of HP PCs. Another valuable energy saving transformation is to replace old CRT monitors. LCD technology provides up to 70% power saving and up to twice the lifespan of CRT monitors.
“Information technology is an important cog in the environmental change wheel. Transforming to new energy efficient technology will help in the future, but making small changes to daily habits can have an immediate effect in conserving energy, reducing expenses and working towards saving our planet,” concludes Barnes.
