Open source software vendor, Novell is widely rumoured to be a couple of weeks away from concluding a deal that will split the software maker in two with its Linux business being sold off and the remainder of the company being acquired by a private equity firm.
Sources close to the company say Novell has agreed in principle to sell its SuSE Linux business to one potential buyer and the rest of its other business to another buyer.
There has been speculation that IBM, Linux software vendor Red Hat and virtualisation technology company VMware might be bidding for the Novell business.
Along with its Linux business, Novell sells a range of identity and security management, collaboration and IT management software products.
Recently, Novell officially unveiled its Cloud Manger offering which is aimed at assisting organisations to build and manage cloud computing systems in their environment.
If this deal goes through it will another deal that makes headlines, following Intel’s announcement that it will acquire IT security vendor McAfee.
