Gulf International Bank (GIB) launched its ‘Women in Technology’ training programme for the women in Saudi Arabia. The bank launched this programme in partnership with Effat University, a leading private non-profit institution of higher education for women in the kingdom, operating under the umbrella of King Faisal’s Charitable Foundation.
Dr. Haifa Jamal Al-Lail, President at Effat University said, “We are happy that GIB chose Effat University as a partner in this commendable programme. We are pleased to provide training to women who, without this programme, might not have the means to learn and equip themselves with the skills required on the current job market.”
The programme is designed to improve the employment skills of the Saudi women by creating a strong base with vital skills in information technology and business skills that will allow them to begin their careers and pave the way for new training opportunities.
Mushari Al-Otaibi, Country Head for KSA at GIB added: “I am very pleased to join Dr. Haifa Jamal Al-Lail today to welcome the first intake of students of the GIB Women in Technology Programme. I am confident that this programme will serve the Kingdom’s vision to further drive the development of education for women.”
The 10-week programme consists of two main segments: fundamentals of computer applications and basic work skills. The technology section covers introductory units related to basic computer use, such as various operating systems, using MS Office suite, Internet and emails.
The work skills section introduces the students to basic work-related skills such as interpersonal communication, decision making, resume writing and managing job interviews. During the course, the students will be full time at the Effat University campus in Jeddah and will receive a certificate of completion on successful conclusion of the programme.
Speaking at the occasion the CEO for GIB, Abdulaziz A. Al-Helaissi said: “We are delighted to launch this programme to support women in Saudi Arabia to embrace technology and instil valuable work skills. Women form an important part of the workforce in Saudi Arabia and will play an integral role in shaping the kingdom’s future. GIB is proud to be a part of this initiative.”
