Reporting from Barcelona, Spain: Mobile World Congress, the largest mobility exhibition in the world, is drawing to a close. The event has been the launch pad for many flagship smartphones and devices, and this year was no different.
Over the past couple of days, we have seen hot new releases from the likes of Sony Mobile, LG, Huawei, Samsung, Nokia, BlackBerry, Motorola, and so on. Here then, is the list of devices that made into Review Central’s Best of MWC 2017 list!
Sony Xperia XZ Premium
This year at MWC, Sony has bet its hopes onto its new flagship – the Xperia XZ Premium. This smartphone packs in 5.5-inch 4K HDR display, 19-megapixel rear “Motion Eye” camera and a mighty Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. There is also 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, along with water and dust proofing to a high standard. Brilliant indeed.
Huawei P10 Plus
Huawei kick-started MWC 2017 with the launch of two new smartphones – the P10 and the P10 Plus. Out of the two devices, the P10 Plus gets our money – it features a 5.5-inch QHD screen and comes with Huawei’s Dual Camera tech meaning you get that fantastic Leica monochrome camera.
LG G6
LG’s gamble over discarding its modular smartphone ambitions seems to have paid off. Teased for sometime, the LG G6 is the company’s newest flagship device and it comes in a non-modular body and we love it! It comes with a 5.7-inch 18:9 display that is longer than you’re probably used to. It’s also the first phone that supports Dolby Vision HDR meaning your videos are going to look stunning thanks to a better contrast and wider colour gamut.
Nokia 6
HMD Global had all eyes set on itself, when it announced it is going to relaunch a 17-year old phone – the Nokia 3310. The company also showcased three new Android smartphones – the one we liked is the Nokia 6. This one is a mid-range phone that comes with a 5.5-inch screen, among other features. The company is also offering a special Nokia 6 Arte Black version, which features a colouring similar to the high-end iPhone 7 Jet Black model.
BlackBerry KeyOne
BlackBerry is going strong with churning out handsets after handsets. This time around, the company has handed the hardware license to TCL. Previously known as the Mercury, the new KeyOne gives old Bold users what they believe they still want: a keyboard. Combine that with Android and BlackBerry Hub and this should bring a smile to any Blackberry fan’s face.
Samsung Galaxy Book
A few years ago, Samsung had great PC and laptop ambitions. Then, midway, it just gave up on that notion. The company is now plotting its entry back into the PC / laptop business with its new Galaxy Book. This one is a Microsoft Surface-like device from Samsung. Coming in two sizes – 10.6 and 12-inches – it runs Windows 10 and comes with an optional S Pen that lets you take notes, do illustrations and more.
Motorola Moto G5 Plus
Motorola’s G5 Plus is an upgrade to the standard offering. The device delivers a big dose of premium, without the prohibitive price tag. This new Moto feels like a phone with purpose, built for an audience that actually exists for such a device. From the camera performance to the overall design, if you’re not in the phone market seeking an over-powered processor in your device then this little beauty ought to have everything sewn up.
