MEET ICT Conference Concludes Urging AI Localization in Bahrain

The 12th edition of the MEET ICT Conference concluded with a strong recommendation to prioritize the localization of artificial intelligence (AI) applications and technologies in Bahrain.

Participants highlighted the significant role AI can play in enhancing service efficiency and effectiveness across critical sectors such as healthcare, education, transport, trade, and agriculture. They emphasized the importance of workforce training to develop the skills necessary to harness the full potential of AI, thereby fostering innovation, productivity, and competitiveness in local markets.

In the closing session of the three-day conference, participants underscored the need to invest in startups, scientific research, and development to promote locally-driven AI technologies. They also called for stronger international collaboration to exchange knowledge and expertise in AI localization.

Reflecting on the transformative impact of AI, participants noted its ability to predict, make decisions autonomously, and continuously evolve without human intervention, marking a pivotal shift in how industries operate.

Participants emphasized that artificial intelligence has emerged as a cornerstone of modern life across diverse sectors, serving as a foundational pillar for knowledge advancement and economic growth. Its applications, marked by unparalleled speed and cost-efficiency, play a pivotal role in driving sustainable development initiatives.

They highlighted that AI has become a top priority on public policy agendas worldwide, with numerous national governments launching initiatives to leverage AI for development and economic expansion. Notably, participants referenced projections indicating that AI could contribute an estimated $15 trillion to the global economy by 2030.

Held under the theme “AI for All,” the conference was organized by the Bahrain Technology Companies Society (BTECH) in cooperation with WorkSmart Events Management and hosted at the Gulf Convention Center.

It was inaugurated in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications. The event explored the latest developments in AI, its applications, and its critical role in driving economic progress.

The conference featured panel discussions and workshops, drawing participation from prominent technology industry leaders, decision-makers, officials, and experts. Sessions delved into the immense potential of AI technologies to drive innovation and enhance performance across economic sectors. The discussions also spotlighted cutting-edge applications in fields such as cybersecurity, e-commerce, blockchain, and digital education.

Running alongside the conference, the Bahrain International Technology Exhibition (BITEX) showcased a wide range of innovative products and services from leading ICT companies in Bahrain, the region, and around the globe.

BITEX provided a platform for technology companies to exchange insights on the latest advancements in digital transformation across government and business sectors, reinforcing Bahrain’s position as a regional hub for technology and innovation.
