Kunal Purohit, Chief Digital Services Officer, Tech Mahindra, highlight the trends that are going to dominate the technology landscape in 2024
It’s that time of year when we look forward to what technology has in store for us in 2024. Digital transformation is an ongoing process, and in all scenarios, I can see that the groundbreaking trends from the last year will continue to reshape our world in many exciting ways. The power of machine intelligence, the blurring line between the real and virtual worlds, and the evolution through generative AI will be significant, where the execution and business outcomes using these new tech will be the key.
In 2023, generative AI took center stage as a mainstream trend. In 2024, we will realize its true potential and value. It will be a common thread throughout all other technology trends. It will continue to be a game-changing agent for all business functions and industries. While B2B enterprises will use it for bringing efficiency in their processes, products and performance, creative businesses will use it to unlock creativity at scale and contact centers will bring better business outcomes with enhanced customers experience. Being a super-smart assistant, generative AI will keep making enterprises across industries more efficient and productive.
Sustainable technology will continue to be a powerful trend next year too, as different countries and organizations continue to work on their net-zero commitments, and individuals will progressively leverage technology to contribute towards the better environment. At Tech Mahindra, we have integrated sustainability into our core strategy. Our sustainability practices, initiatives, and investment in green technology solutions are helping us in moving towards a low carbon economy, where we aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and net zero by 2023.
With the advancement of all the technologies, cyber threats are becoming more sophisticated. And this takes cyber resilience to become a prominent trend in 2024. At Tech Mahindra, we believe that making effective security monitoring and threat detection mechanisms critically important and thus, giving tremendous focus in this arena. Besides, quantum computing will get more momentum too across various computer-heavy fields, including drug discovery, cryptography, meteorology, material science, optimization of complex systems etc. We, at Tech Mahindra, are developing many new quantum computing offerings for various industries including healthcare, cyber security, and banking.
And above all, powerful technologies are accompanied with potential risks. Generative AI solutions and offerings are transforming several industries’ operational, functional, and strategic landscapes. The generative AI applications can bring enterprise knowledge accessible and available to business users, which leads to democratizing knowledge and skills in the enterprise. AI-infused pair programming allows developers to spend less time writing code, so they can spend more time on more strategic activities. Intelligent applications can deliver experiences that dynamically adapt to the user. But, with these advancements, there are many ethical concerns surrounding generative AI today too, which include copyright or stolen data issues, hallucinations and inaccuracies, biases in training data, cybersecurity jailbreaks, and environmental concerns etc. Thus, responsible AI will also be a major trend in the next year too.
