Advanced cyber threat targets Saudi

Saudi Arabia authorities have discovered an ‘advanced’ wave of cyber threats attacking the government’s computers. This follows the frequent cyber attacks that the Kingdom has suffered, most recent being Shamoon which was a disc-wiping malware employed in attacks against Saudi energy sector in 2012.

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) revealed that hackers injected the ‘Powershell’ malware to cause disruption using email phishing techniques. “The NCSC has detected a new Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) that is targeting Saudi Arabia,” the agency said in a statement.

The government agency has not made any comment on the source of the attack or which government bodies have been affected.
