Canon picks up Green Apple Award

Canon+Green_CPCanon won the Gold award for its toner cartridge recycling programme at the International Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice 2015. The award was presented to Canon at a prestigious awards ceremony held at the House of Commons, Palace of Westminster, London.

The International Green Apple Environment Awards is an annual campaign to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world. The Canon toner cartridge recycling programme was selected from over 500 entries and presented the Gold Award for Environmental Best Practice.

“We are thrilled to be recognised for the contribution our customers have made towards improving the resource efficiency and carbon footprint of our laser toner cartridge manufacturing process through our recycling programme,” comments Yuichi Kondo, Laser Consumables Product Manager at Canon Europe.

“In 1990, we became the first company in the world to establish a global recycling programme for toner cartridges and since its launch, we’ve collected and recycled more than 344,000 tonnes of cartridges globally, saving over 502,000 tonnes of CO₂.” added Kondo.

This year Canon celebrated the 25th anniversary of its laser toner cartridge recycling programme, designed to minimise the use of resources whilst enabling customers to meet their printing requirements. The programme, which is free for customers, operates in 24 countries globally, of which 18 countries are in Europe.

Information about the performance of Canon’s recycling programme will be included in The Green Book Work of Reference 2015 for environmental best practice projects of significant environmental merit, to be published by The Green Organisation.
