Kaymu, the leading eCommerce Marketplace in Africa has said it will next month launch an aggressive buyer and sellers recruitment drive in Uganda. IT resellers have been tipped to take advantage of the market place in Uganda.
According to the Kaymu Uganda Country Manager – Justin Christianson, the Kaymu marketplace is showing signs of quick growth as more people acquire mobile devices enabled to go online. Kaymu sells online, a wide range of products including fashion and electronics.
“We are expecting better business in 2015. We are actually testing the grounds as we undertake recruiting more buyers and sellers. We are going to work with sellers and especially a group of sellers with whom we are sharing sales data. We are still learning the market,” said Christianson who hinted that the company will next month start an aggressive expansion campaign.
The one-year-old Kaymu in Uganda is currently offering over 70,000 products of which between 20% to 30% are IT equipment and electronics and according to Christianson, the company has grown from zero seller to 5000 most of whom based in Kampala.
“The future is incredibly promising.There a lot more people going online more often as sellers bring more products online, the demand will grow. The areas growing in particular are in phones, smart phones, laptops, Tablets, Hybrid smartphones (Phablets) and an important thing is that more people are embracing the lower end tablets,” said Christianson.
Kaymu uses a modified model similar to eBay. It recruits sellers of products and educates them on products that are on demand.
Kaymu is owned by the Africa Internet group and its investors include MTN and TIGO.
