Institution chooses virtualized solution based on plug-and-play model
Dubai Culture needed to transform the IT underpinning the organisation to achieve the goals of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President & Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

It turned to Dell, which proposed a private cloud solution based on Dell PowerEdge M620 blade servers, Dell EqualLogic PS6110XV and PS4110E storage arrays, Dell Networking S4810P core and S50V edge switches, and Dell SonicWALL Network Security Appliance (NSA) E6500 and NSA 2400 next-generatio firewalls. The stack was then virtualized using Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V.

Citizens gain facilities to enhance learning and deliver academic excellence
People living in the UAE today have access to a network of libraries offering first-class learning facilities complete with fast internet connectivity. Dubai Culture expects more people to take advantage of the library facilities, which will help promote academic excellence across the region.

Mohamed Al Hammadi, IT Manager at Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), says: “Dell solutions will enable us to reach out to a wider audience to promote this world-class city.”

Dubai Culture can promote flexible access through bring-your-own-device (BYOD) strategies
The institution has laid the foundations for next-generation learning where people use their own devices to connect to the internet at the Dubai public library. With the private cloud infrastructure and the Dell SonicWALL firewalls, Dubai Culture has the IT capacity to set in motion its BYOD strategy safe in the knowledge that the network will stay protected.

Mohamed Al Hammadi says: “Following the success of implementing Dell solutions, the Authority will continue to explore growth opportunities for its technological infrastructure.”

Users will gain high availability and rapid access to new services
Employees are also seeing faster access to business applications and data, enabling them to work more efficiently. High availability is maintained with the support of Dell ProSupport with Mission Critical four-hour on-site service. Mohamed Al Hammadi says: “Dell’s framework will allow us to establish stronger streams of communication internally and externally.”

Dubai Culture cuts space and power consumption for greener working
The organisation is keen to promote more sustainable working practices and the Dell solution is helping it achieve these goals. Mohamed Al Hammadi says: “Dubai Culture is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and the Dell Solutions help us achieve this goal.”
