According to IDC, PC monitor shipments worldwide grew by 4.5%in the third quarter of 2013 in comparison to the previous quarter. Third quarter witnessed the sales of over 35.0 million monitors globally beating the expectations and surpassing the forecast by 1.2 million units during the same period.
“Asia/Pacific excluding Japan, Western Europe, and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) outperformed the overall market in the third quarter and increased their regional market shares,” said Jennifer Song, Research Analyst, Worldwide Trackers at IDC. “China and India were the top growth drivers within APeJ, while Germany and Russia were the leading country markets in Europe.”
The report also explained that the adoption of LED backlight technology continued its march ahead and increased its market share in 3Q13 to 84.9%, representing a year-over-year increase of 14.4 percentage points. While, the market saw monitors with size of over 21inches gaining more acceptance and monitors with an aspect ratio of 16:9 dominated the market.
Monitors with TV tuners are expected to grow to 7.7% market share by 2017, up from 5.7% share in 2013, led by LG and Samsung with a combined market share of 95% in this category. Touchscreen monitors are still a small segment of the total PC monitor but is expected to grow fast.
