Amadeus, a leading technology partner for the global travel industry, has announced the appointment of David Doctor as Vice President, Western Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
In his new role, Doctor will lead commercial activities in Amadeus’ home Western European markets where the company has a strong base as well as in the exciting growth markets of the Middle East and Africa.
David Doctor first joined Amadeus in 1999 as Market Manager for Western Europe, and was appointed as Director for Western Europe in 2003. Since 2004, Doctor has held various other positions at Amadeus including Director of Airline Distribution and Low Cost Carriers as well as Director of Airline Marketing and Sales.
Under his leadership, Amadeus has fronted a new way forward in distribution with the introduction of value-based pricing and the launch of the Amadeus Airline Retailing Platform. The evolution has transformed the GDS from a pure distribution channel to a retailing platform. Doctor was also responsible for the introduction of Amadeus Ticketless Access, a distribution solution specifically moulded to meet the needs of low cost carriers.
“This is a large and varied regional role encompassing a number of very different challenges and opportunities. It requires a clear and innovative thinker, a sharp business mind and a clear focus on delivering for our customers. Throughout his distinguished career at Amadeus, David has shown these qualities in abundance and I have no doubt that he will rise to this new challenge and strengthen our position in these key markets,” said Holger Taubmann, Senior Vice President, Distribution, at Amadeus.
Replacing Angel Gallego who was recently appointed Head of the Asia Pacific region, Doctor will be based out of Amadeus IT Group’s global headquarters in Madrid.
A graduate in Psychology, Economics and History of Art from Leicester University in the UK, Doctor holds an MBA from IEDE in Spain.
