Ministry of Economy UAE wins 'Open Group Arabia Award'

The IT Department of Ministry of Economy, UAE recently won the Open Group Arabia Award for its continuous adoption of the latest technologies in institutional planning.

The Ministry had recently launched a cross-section of high quality and efficient online services at the www.madeintheuae.com website, which will help manufacturers to promote their factories, products, and services. It enables UAE manufacturers to reach and connect with a global audience of buyers. Made in the UAE is supported by the Ministry of Economy, Dubai eGovernment and Tejari.

The Ministry has also launched the Electronic System for Goods Monitoring which connects the Ports & Customs and the Ministry of Economy and centres of major retailers, enabling the Ministry to counter any attempts at potential monopoly practices by negotiating with suppliers or distribution outlets.

His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Minister of Economy, UAE, emphasized the importance of adopting the latest technologies to enhance competitiveness and increase productivity.

The Director of the IT Department Mr. Essam Al Falasi, whose contribution where key in achieving this new milestone added: “The implementation of a long-term strategy for IT includes several key initiatives that will help and strengthen the performance of various services undertaken by the Ministry.”

Another service was the issuance of Arabic Certificates of Origin online. This service offers flexible procedures for investors further enhancing the investment environment of the UAE.  With this service, the merchant or the producer can apply online and request for a certificate of origin, and update or change the contents of the request for the certificate any time. This procedure is available in both English and Arabic languages.
