Epicor recently announced the appointment of Jumbo-ESD, the enterprise solutions division of consumer electronics giant Jumbo Electronics, as the Value Added Reseller (VAR) for the United Arab Emirates. Jumbo-ESD addresses and improves efficiency of its corporate customers by offering design, building, network consulting and innovative IT hardware and software solutions across various industries, including hospitality, retail, education, healthcare and finance, the statement said.

T-Systems South Africa announced the appointment of Giancarlo Fenderico as the Strategic Partner Manager. Fenderico appointment comes as company taking a more strategic, focused and aligned approach to its partner model in the country. Fenderico will, in the next two months, embark on a fact-finding mission, liaising with all stakeholders and partners to ascertain their immediate expectations and how T-Systems can address these – be it larger issues or smaller, daily challenges. Before joining T-Systems in the beginning of 2011, Fenderico was responsible for establishing and running the SAP Practice at Siemens SA. His career also includes a tenure at KPMG in the US, and Germany, again specialising in the SAP environment.

Worldwide Server shipments grew by 9 percent

In the first quarter of 2011, worldwide server shipments grew 8.5 percent year-on-year, while revenue increased 17.3 percent, according to Gartner, Inc. In server shipments, HP remained the worldwide leader in the first quarter of 2011 with a year-on-year shipment increase of 2.3 percent for the quarter. This growth was driven by increases produced from HP's ProLiant brand. HP's worldwide server shipment share was 29.8 percent, representing a 1.8 percent drop in share from the same quarter in 2010.

East Africa records massive growth, says IDC

The PC market in East Africa strongly expanded in the first quarter of 2011, even as the worldwide PC market contracted and the pan-African market almost stagnated. According to a recent report by market research company IDC, East Africa (including Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Uganda) recorded a massive 76% growth in PC shipments and it further expects the East African PC market will further grow by about 35–45% in 2011 before cooling off in 2012.

HP signed a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Printelligent, a closely held provider of managed print services (MPS). The infrastructure, software and trained workforce of Printelligent, combined with HP’s channel relationships, experience and broad base of services and solutions will strengthen HP’s leadership in MPS. Microsoft has previewed the next major release of Windows Phone, code name “Mango,” for the Gulf region which coincided with a series of media events around the world. “Mango” will deliver more than 500 new features to push the boundaries of the smartphone experience around communications, apps and the Internet. The Mango release will be available for free to Windows Phone 7 customers and is scheduled to ship on new phones beginning this fall; More details on device update timing will be provided closer to availability.
