Cyber crime losses amount to USD 1.33b, FBI

According to Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) claimed in its 2016 Internet Crime Report received a total of 298,728 complaints with reported losses in excess of $1.3 billion. The investigative agency further revealed that the agency monitored all the trending scams such as Business Email Compromise (BEC), ransomware, tech support fraud, and extortion.

In a statement FBI said, last year the top three crime types reported by victims were non-payment and non-delivery, personal data breach, and payment scams. The top three crime types by reported loss were BEC, romance and confidence fraud, and non-payment and non-delivery scams.

The report also highlighted top 20 countries outside USA most effected by the cyber crimes. Canada is the most victimised country outside USA followed by India and UK, whereas, UAE stand at the 16th spot in the report.
