Majid Al Futtaim, Omantel partner for network support

Majid Al Futtaim has signed an agreement with Omantel, Oman’s top telecom services operator, to build an onsite, leading-edge voice and data network supporting the largest-ever lifestyle destination under construction in the sultanate.

Given the number of ‘firsts’ being created by Mall of Oman – the country’s first snow-park, with an 8,000 sq m play area; the largest VOX Cinemas; a 12,200 sqm Carrefour; a Little Explorers edutainment centre; and a 2,965 sq m Magic Planet – demand for Wifi and network access to share visitors’ great moments will require Omantel’s fastest and most consistent telecommunications offering.

When it opens in 2020, the estimated RO275 million ($714 million) Mall of Oman will feature services including fixed voice and data services, and mobile voice and high speed broadband connectivity for its more than 350 retail and 20 dining outlets across a 137,000 sq m leasable space, all delivered via the dedicated Omantel network.

Commenting on this partnership, Talib Omar Al Balushi, Oman country head for Majid Al Futtaim Properties, said, “The speed and reliability of Mall of Oman’s connectivity is key to its role as a flagship lifestyle destination, and Omantel is the ideal partner to develop this bespoke communications network. As evidenced by social media, Majid Al Futtaim is bringing our vision of creating great moments for everyone, everyday, to life for residents and tourists through our existing properties in the Sultanate, and our visitors will benefit tremendously from the bespoke network intended for Mall of Oman,” he added.

Omantel CEO Talal Said Al Mamari said that the collaboration with Mall of Oman is part of its pioneering effort to provide optimum connectivity and accessibility for the country’s residents and its growing tourism sector. “We support innovation in the new retailing and entertainment concepts being created by Majid Al Futtaim, and the diversification of the private sector through the growth of lifestyle destinations such as Mall of Oman,” he added.
