SAP has announced that Sam Alkharrat, head of the vendor’s operations in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is being promoted to the role of managing director of West Coast of North America.

Alkharrat, who has overseen SAP’s expansion in the region since 2010, will move to the new role from mid next month, the business application vendor announced.

SAP MENA said that a replacement would be announced in due course.

Remarking on Alkharrat’s departure, Steve Tzikakis, senior VP and general manager of South Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Sam laid the foundations in MENA for what has become one of SAP’s largest and fastest-growing regions, and his legacy is the solidity of the organization, employee base and customer relationships he leaves behind. Our succession plans are well underway to ensure a smooth transition as SAP’s commitment to the region remains stronger than ever with continued focus on our customer needs and market expansion.

Alhkarrat, a 25 year veteran of the IT sector, has overseen SAP’s $450m expansion plan for the Middle East. He was also previously head of Cisco in Gulf and Pakistan.

“We are delighted to bring Sam and his demonstrated leadership skills into SAP’s West Market Unit, which is a center for innovation in technology,” said Jennifer Morgan, president of SAP North America.”During his career at SAP, Sam has showed a passion for the business and the customer that, time and time again, resulted in new levels of customer engagement and success.”
